Strawberryline Cyle Path

Strawberryline Cyle Path

Strawberryline Cycle Path - Wells

The Strawberry Line is mainly traffic-free, with no steep gradients and only 9 miles long, making it ideal for a family day out. Along the way you’ll appreciate the beauty and variety of Somerset as you pass cider apple orchards, steep wooded valleys and the spectacular Cheddar Gorge.

A great day out for exploring Somerset, eco-friendly - and enjoying the Somerset countryside views and fresh air!

The Strawberry Line takes its name from the delicious cargo this former railway line carried from the strawberry fields of Cheddar.

The line was well used for nearly a century until its closure in 1965 and since then a wealth of wildlife habitats have been allowed to flourish.

Volunteers from the Cheddar Valley Railway Walk Society began converting the line into a walking and cycling route in 1983.

This ride is mainly traffic-free with no steep gradients and takes in a variety of landscapes from the flat marshes and cider apple orchards around Yatton, steep wooded valleys and a tunnel through the Mendips, to historic Axbridge and the spectacular Cheddar Gorge.

The route has been re-surfaced since opening and on-going improvements have seen the current road section through Sandford replaced with a traffic-free path behind the Thatchers cider farm.

Care is needed when crossing and using short sections of busy roads at Congresbury, Sandford and Axbridge.

Hire a bike for the day from BIKE CITY, only a 5-minute walk from your pods and supporting a local business!

Navigate your cycle using GPS cycles.

About Cathedral View Glamping

About Cathedral View Glamping

Cathedral View is located on a 500 acre family run beef and arable farm in Wells, Somerset. The farm itself has the best of both worlds, one side is beautiful Somerset countryside and the other side is the historic cathedral city of Wells, the bustling high street is just a five minute walk away.

The Phelps’ have been farming Palace Farm for four generations with the fifth coming on behind. It has historically been a dairy farm until seven years ago when it transitioned to beef and arable after problems with TB. The farm is named Palace Farm due to farming the land around the Bishops Palace, the historic seat of the Bishop of Bath and Wells.

It has been a dream by the family at Palace Farm to start a glamping site, so they can let the public share their amazing location and stay in the most unique spot in the Wells area.
